Bringing Community Stories to Life: Video Production for the City of Greater Dandenong

Situation:

The City of Greater Dandenong, located in Melbourne’s southeast, needed a compelling way to showcase the real impact of their Community Support Grants Program. They wanted to highlight stories from grant recipients and demonstrate how funding had transformed local initiatives. The video would premiere at the Grants Recognition Event and later be used across Council’s website and community centres to inspire more organisations to apply.

• Off-Camera Interview Approach: We used a narrative-driven interview technique, allowing participants to speak naturally while the visuals carried the emotional weight.
• Cinematic Overlay Footage: Given the importance of visual storytelling, we captured compelling B-roll to complement each speaker’s story.
• Seamless Logistics & Scheduling: Coordinating six full-length interviews and overlay footage in six different locations within a day was a challenge, but through careful pre-production planning, we ensured an efficient, smooth shoot.
• Emotional Storytelling Through Editing: The final edit featured a thoughtful mix of music, colour grading, and pacing to enhance the emotional impact of each story, making it resonate with a diverse audience.
