DET Victoria – Primary Mathematics Professional Learning Video Series

Situation

The Victorian Department of Education and Training (DET VIC) introduced a new, evidence-based approach to teaching mathematics in primary schools. To support this rollout, teachers across the state required clear, consistent, and practical professional learning content that demonstrated lesson delivery in a way that felt authentic, achievable, and classroom-ready.

With a clearly defined pedagogical vision led by Director of Lesson Plans, Steph Murphy, the challenge was not concept development—but precise execution at scale. The content needed to be accurate, repeatable, and efficiently produced, while maintaining clarity and instructional integrity.

Task

77 Productions was engaged to execute the production of 20 instructional training videos that would:

• Demonstrate new mathematics lesson plans clearly and consistently

• Support teachers with visual, step-by-step instruction using whiteboards and base-10 blocks

• Maintain pedagogical accuracy while ensuring production efficiency

• Be delivered at scale, within a tightly controlled production window

Action

To deliver the series efficiently and consistently, we implemented a streamlined, execution-focused production workflow:

• Pre-recorded Voiceover First:
  All lesson scripts were professionally voiced prior to filming, allowing on-screen talent to follow the audio precisely while demonstrating each lesson.

• Top-Down Filming Approach:
  Each video was shot from a fixed, overhead perspective, directly above the working table. This ensured clarity, consistency, and an unobstructed view of the teaching materials.

• Single-Day Production:
  All 20 videos were filmed in one day at DET headquarters in East Melbourne, maximising efficiency and maintaining visual continuity across the series.

• Practical Demonstration Focus:
  Teachers demonstrated lessons using whiteboards and base-10 blocks in real time, closely aligned with the narrated instruction.

• Post-Production Refinement:
  Light retiming, clean edits, and subtle motion graphics were applied to enhance clarity without distracting from the learning content.

Result

The final outcome was a cohesive, highly practical professional learning video series that:

• Delivered clear, consistent training aligned with DET VIC’s pedagogical vision

• Enabled teachers to see exactly how lessons should be delivered, not just read about them

• Scaled efficiently, with all 20 videos produced in a single, well-controlled shoot day

• Provided DET VIC with a durable, reusable learning asset to support statewide maths education

The project demonstrated 77 Productions’ ability to operate as a trusted execution partner—delivering complex, large-scale educational content with precision, efficiency, and care.
